Marie Stopes Uganda (MSUG) today officially opened its expanded and rebranded Arua Centre, strengthening access to affordable, high-quality healthcare services for communities across Arua City and the wider West Nile region.
The expanded centre is designed to provide a broader range of healthcare services under one roof, reducing the need for clients to travel to Kampala to access specialised services. The facility offers family planning and post-abortion care, maternity and antenatal services, general healthcare, ultrasound and imaging, as well as dedicated wellness packages for women, men and children.
Established in 2006, the Marie Stopes Arua Centre has served thousands of clients over the past two decades. Its expansion reflects MSUG’s continued investment in bringing quality healthcare closer to communities while responding to the evolving health needs of the region.
The official opening was attended by distinguished guests including Mr Alionzi Lawrence, Mayor of Arua City; Mr Namoma Ivan, Deputy Resident City Commissioner of Arua City in charge of Central Division; Dr Apangu Pontious, Arua City Health Officer; Ms Ayikoru Claudia, Woman LC1, Old Bus Park Cell; and Mr William Nnyombi, Director, Impact Enterprise at Marie Stopes Uganda.
Speaking at the launch, Mr Namoma Ivan highlighted the important role of Marie Stopes in complementing government healthcare efforts and called for deeper collaboration between the organisation and government.
“It is now our duty to make sure that we protect this partnership and make sure that your skills and expertise are brought on board so that we can integrate them into mainstream health management.”
He further recognised Marie Stopes’s contribution to addressing gaps in healthcare delivery in Arua and the wider region.
Mr William Nnyombi, Director, Impact Enterprise at Marie Stopes, also highlighted the organisation’s approach to sustaining healthcare delivery amid changes in global development financing.
“When donors announced the funding cuts, many organisations were affected, but Marie Stopes has not lost a single service. We are strengthening the sustainability of our health services through a hybrid model that combines donor-funded programmes with revenue-generating services, enabling us to maintain service delivery despite shifts in global development financing.”
He added that the expanded Arua Centre would make it easier for people in West Nile to access a wider range of services closer to home.
“Now that the people of Arua and West Nile have a bigger space, you don’t have to run to Kampala. You’ll find everything here.”
To mark the opening, Marie Stopes is offering special wellness packages throughout September:
- Back-to-School Check-up – UGX 25,000
- Men’s Health Check-up – UGX 30,000
- Women’s Wellness Check-up – UGX 30,000
The packages are designed to encourage individuals and families to prioritise preventive healthcare and early detection of health conditions.
The expansion of the Arua Centre is part of Marie Stopes’ broader commitment to improving access to quality, affordable and client-centred healthcare, while working closely with government and other partners to strengthen health outcomes in the region.
