Marie Stopes Uganda (MSU) held its Partnership Day on April 27th, 2023, bringing together stakeholders, partners, and collaborators from various sectors.
The event, themed “Strengthening Public Sector for Sustainable Investment in Sexual & Reproductive Health in Uganda,” aimed to showcase MSI Uganda’s vision for strengthening health systems and expanding access to marginalized communities.
In her opening remarks, Dr. Carole Sekimpi, Senior Country Director for MSI-Africa, emphasized the importance of partnerships in achieving MSU’s goals.
“Partnerships are essential for us to provide quality SRH services to the communities we serve. We appreciate the partnerships we have built over the years and look forward to forging new ones that will help us achieve our vision of a world where every birth is wanted, every child is cared for, and every mother has the opportunity to survive and thrive.”
The event featured discussions on various topics, including the impact of the work done in Pillar One and expanding access to young people in marginalized communities.
Dr. Charles Olaro, the Director of Curative Services at the Ministry of Health, highlighted the still high maternal mortality ratio in Uganda and the critical role of family planning in safe motherhood. He also emphasized the government’s commitment to increasing Uganda’s Family Planning Costed Implementation Plan 2020/21 – 2024/25 target of contraceptive prevalence rate for modern methods to 46.6% and reducing the unmet need for family planning to less than 10%.
The event also included an exhibition showcasing MSU’s work in improving sexual and reproductive health, with a particular focus on marginalized communities. Participants had the opportunity to engage with MSU staff and learn about the organization’s services and programs.
MSU’s Partnership Day highlighted the crucial role of partnerships in achieving sustainable impact in sexual and reproductive health.
The organization remains committed to strengthening existing partnerships and forging new ones that will help MSU achieve its mission of improving the quality of life of women, men, and young people in Uganda through the provision of quality SRH services.
