MSI Uganda, led by Deputy Country Director Dr. Peter Ddungu, participated in the launch of the ‘Strengthening Adolescents and Youth (SAY) Empowerment and Rights Programme’ in Adjumani District in northern Uganda.
The four-year grant aims to empower young people and women living in refugee settlements and host communities in the West Nile and Acholi sub-regions to access reproductive health services and sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) support.
Funded by the Danish Embassy in Uganda in collaboration with UNFPA, the grant will run from January 2024 to December 2027.
MSI Uganda’s role will focus on service delivery, ensuring the provision of high-quality, integrated SRHR and SGBV services, including contraceptive choice. Additionally, MSI will support efforts to raise awareness about services and create an enabling environment for young people to access them.
During the pre-launch activities, the team visited Alere Refugee Settlement, home to over 7000 refugees across 881 households. At the settlement, MSI Uganda engaged with women in the community, providing counselling and information on various family planning options and offering free contraception services. They worked closely with the midwives at Alere Health Centre II, who continue to receive mentorship and capacity-building support from MSI to enhance their skills in family planning service delivery.
