Marie Stopes Uganda Launches BUUZA Campaign to Strengthen Maternal and Reproductive Health Care

Marie Stopes Uganda has launched the BUUZA Campaign, a nationwide initiative aimed at making it easier for Ugandans—especially women and couples—to access trusted reproductive and maternal healthcare. The campaign encourages people to ask questions early, reducing delays in seeking professional health guidance.


Understanding the BUUZA Campaign: Empowering Ugandans to Ask

In many Ugandan communities, conversations around reproductive health—such as fertility, pregnancy, childbirth, and contraception—remain private and often uncomfortable. Instead of speaking to trained health providers, many rely on friends, relatives, or online searches.

Omu BUUZA Campaign, meaning “Ask”, addresses this cultural barrier by creating safe, judgment‑free spaces where people can confidently seek answers.


Why Asking Questions Matters in Reproductive Health

Social expectations around discretion and endurance mean many women delay asking critical questions. This can lead to:

  • Late antenatal care registration
  • Missed early screening opportunities
  • Unmanaged pregnancy or postpartum complications
  • Higher reproductive health risks

By normalizing conversation, BUUZA promotes early engagement and continuity of care.

  • Only 30% begin care in the first trimester
