Public sector strengthening
Expanding high-quality service provision through the public sector, in partnership with the Ministry of Health.

Partnering with the government to strengthen health systems
For many people, their nearest and most affordable provider of sexual and reproductive healthcare is a public sector facility funded through the national healthcare system. Unfortunately, these facilities often lack the full range of services needed. Public health facilities can be short on essential supplies, and staff may not have the necessary training to deliver services like IUDs and implants.
Through the partnership with the Ministry of Health, Marie Stopes operates in 94 districts across Uganda. So far, over 880 public health facilities and more than 1800 health workers have been supported with provider mentorship focused on clinical quality improvement, stock management, and data quality management.
In 2024 alone, this initiative enabled 807,056 clients, especially those in rural and hard-to-reach communities, to continue receiving these critical services.
